08.01.05Glass in Longhorn Beta 1Kam VedBrat (of the Avalon team at Microsoft), has posted a little writeup on how to get Glass working on Longhorn (Vista) Beta 1 here. It basically comes down to the fact that you need a graphics card that supports LDDM. Here are ATI's and nVidia's LDDM drivers (with a listing of the cards that are supported): ATI nVidia So I guess my old GeForce 3 isn't going to cut it... Anyone want to donate a graphics card? :)

07.24.05Windows Vista - Not Very OriginalYou would think that Microsoft would come up with something a little more original for their next version of Windows. Here is a list of technology companies using the Vista name that I can think of: MontaVista Linux Epicor Vista VISTA Tools ViSta (Visual Statistics) Vista WebCT Vista eTrez Vista I am sure there is more, if you can think of any post them in the comments. The big question would be, will any of these companies have grounds for a trademark battle with Microsoft? Or each other? I'm not a lawyer, I wouldn't know, but I would love to see Microsoft have to make some payouts on ...

07.24.05Scoble Misses the Mark, Again….Sure, MacDailyNews did talk a lot of smack about Mac OS X doing everything Vista is bringing to the table, but unfortunately Scoble totally missed the mark with his reply. I believe MacDailyNews was talking smack about software, all your examples are hardware Scoble - can I see an indication of the relationship here? Sure, Tablet PCs are nice, and there isn't an equivalent Mac, but can we keep to comparing apples to apples? Give me some OS examples please, Scoble.

07.23.05Windows Vista Beta ScheduleActiveWin are reporting the Windows Vista beta schedule will be as follows: Beta 1 on August3, 2005 Beta 2 in early 2006 RTM in late 2006 I would defiantly love to be on the beta for this, but short of sending two pounds of chocolate to the test manager, I think I have very little chance... Still, as I haven't had a hands on yet, I am still to pass judgment on Vista. I still have a lot of excitement for the release of the new OS, unless I buy a Mac in the mean time that is. Plus there is the little naming conflict ...

07.22.05New Name for Longhorn is Windows VistaSo, according to Bink and ActiveWin, the new name for Windows Longhorn is Windows Vista. Scoble hints at the announcement here I have one issue with this - The new Learning Management system that we are rolling out for one of the Universities I contract for is also called Vista, it is a product from a company called WebCT, direct link to the product here. Do I smell a legal trademark battle of some sort here? Maybe a potential payout for WebCT, as Microsoft would definitely be the big dog on this one.
