10.26.05Cingular Walled Garden?A MobileBurn reader wrote to me in regards to my post about Cingular introducing mobile email and instant messaging applications (here) asking whether I think that this is a move towards a "walled garden" strategy. I think this is quite the opposite actually, as the mobile applications are specifically designed to work with third-party services. Admittedly, the apps don't work with ALL services, but Hotmail, AIM, and Yahoo! Mail are hardly Cingular services. I was playing around on the internet and noticed Motorola has created the product page for the V3x. I was also wondering what you thought of the phone if you have had the chance to use it. 10.18.05Sony Ericsson W900I wrote up my snapshot for MobileBurn on the new Sony Ericsson W900, and while I wasn't really impressed when I started, after I finished getting through the snapshot I am now at least a little interested. It still seems a little large though, but I thought the same thing about the S700 when I first laid eyes on it. 10.18.05Design Mistakes on WeblogsJakob Nielsen has written a great list of the Top Ten Design Mistakes people make on weblogs. If you have your own blog, definitely give it a read. I think my biggest rule breaker is the fact that I don't have an about me page. I have never really though about this, but now that I am I have no idea why I don't. 10.16.05Nokia 9300iI have written up the FCC news for the Nokia 9300i for MobileBurn, to be posted on Monday. I really like this updated version of the 9300 - the added WiFi will certainly satisfy a craving that many users of the original possessed. Why has Nokia released this update? 10.15.05Ads on BlogsThat crazy Canadian D'Arcy Norman has grabbed my interest again with his post about him 'selling out' and putting Google AdSense ads on his blog (and since removing them again). I disagree with you D'Arcy, it wasn't selling out at all. I think that a blog has just as much right to place ads on pages as any other site. 10.14.05No TV For Canadian iTMSD'Arcy notes that Blackboard and WebCT are merging. I too, am a little worried about this. A university that I contract for is nearing the final stages of upgrading our current WebCT CE system to WebCT Vista. I am very impressed with Vista so far, and I think that the competition between BB and WebCT for the LMS market has made both stronger products. I don't want to see that stop. 10.14.05Back AgainAfter a long hiatus, I am returning to the blogging scene. For some reason, even with no posts, I have still been average over 2000 unique visits a month.
