07.22.05New Name for Longhorn is Windows VistaSo, according to Bink and ActiveWin, the new name for Windows Longhorn is Windows Vista. Scoble hints at the announcement here I have one issue with this - The new Learning Management system that we are rolling out for one of the Universities I contract for is also called Vista, it is a product from a company called WebCT, direct link to the product here. Do I smell a legal trademark battle of some sort here? Maybe a potential payout for WebCT, as Microsoft would definitely be the big dog on this one.

07.16.05Disney Collecting FingerprintsHere is a fun article from Local6.com - Finger Scanning At Disney Parks Causes Concern. Supposably it is to ensure that people aren't passing around passes, they take a scan so that they know that your are the one that bought it. Surely there are better ways though? One Slashdot comment suggests just taking statistics on their usage, as in - "this pass has been used twice in 2 minutes, error!" - or something like that anyway... The real kicker? Disney officials have stated that they are not taking 'fingerprints', per se, but recording 'finger geometry'. We'll see...

07.11.05The future of Apple ComputerArs Technica has an interesting article up about the future of Apple. Its an interesting read, the theories put forward are interesting to say the least. I don't really agree with the speculation about a video iPod by Christmas though, I think that would be a bit far fetched. In the future, I can see it happening though. With the Xscale in Intel's lineup and the volume price cuts mentioned in the article, I could totally see it happening. Defiantly written by a conspiracy theorist though....

07.09.05The Register Blasts Bloggers Over London BombingSpeaking of The Register, Andrew Orlowski has just posted a huge blast against bloggers using this tragedy as an excuse to promote weblogs as being better at covering the news then traditional mediums. 07.09.05London Bombing TrojanTerrorism is bad enough, but virus writers have released a 'London Bombing' spam bot trojan. It comes in an email with the subject 'TERROR HITS LONDON' and claims to have amateur video footage of the bombing, but when opened will turn a Windows PC into a spam zombie.
